Feature

The ImageToTable.ai add-on for Google Sheets puts the extraction tool in a sidebar next to your spreadsheet. You upload documents, process them, and write the extracted rows into the sheet you are working on — using the same account, templates, and credits as the website.

Install the add-on

Install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace:

ImageToTable.ai — Extract Data from Image

Once it is installed, open any Google Sheet and go to Extensions → ImageToTable.ai → Open. The sidebar appears on the right of the spreadsheet; open it again the same way whenever you need it.

Connect your account

The add-on uses your existing ImageToTable.ai account — there is no separate account to create and nothing extra to subscribe to. The Account section at the top of the sidebar offers two ways to connect it:

  • Sign in with Google. Click Sign in with Google and approve the request. If that Google account is already linked to an ImageToTable.ai account, the sidebar opens it; if it is not, an account is created for it.
  • Paste an API Key. Type or paste the key into the Paste API Key box and click Save. The box tells you where to find it: the API Key section of your profile page on the website.

The API Key is what links the sidebar to your account, so treat it like a password — anyone who has it can act as your account. To get one, or to replace one you no longer want to use, see API Key management.

When you are connected, the Account section shows your username, your plan, and your Balance in credits. Switch Account connects a different account by API Key, and Sign out disconnects the sidebar without affecting anything in the spreadsheet.

Because it is the same account, the sidebar shares everything with the web app:

  • The Files list shows the batches in your account, including ones uploaded or processed on the website.
  • The Data Columns section works with the templates you already saved on the website.
  • Processing spends the same credit balance shown on your profile.

What you can do from the sidebar

Upload documents

In the Your Uploads section, use the Upload button in the Files tab to add files from your computer. Images, PDFs, Word documents (.docx), and plain text files (.txt) are accepted, and you can select several at once. Adding a PDF opens a Select PDF Pages dialog first, so you choose which pages to send rather than having to take the whole document. See Uploading Documents for what each file type does when it arrives.

Choose what to extract

The Data Columns section works like the one on the dashboard. Type a column name into the box (it suggests Column name, e.g. Invoice Number) and click Add; New, Switch, and Settings create, choose, and configure templates. Any template saved on the website is available here, so you can set your columns up once and use them from either place — see Templates & Columns. If you start processing a batch that has no columns defined and more than one file, the sidebar can propose an AI-Suggested Columns list before it runs.

Process a batch

Each batch in the Files list has a play control that starts processing it. The sidebar checks your available credits first; if there are not enough for every file, it shows an Insufficient Credits dialog offering Get More Credits or processing the files the balance covers. A batch that has already been processed can be run again, and the sidebar asks whether to resubmit only the failed and unprocessed files or reprocess everything.

Write results into the sheet

Insert writes the extracted rows into the sheet that is currently open. You can insert a single file's result, a whole batch, or several batches at once — results that share the same columns are written under one header, whatever batch they came from. Every inserted row carries its source File Name and Batch, so rows stay traceable after they land in the sheet.

If the columns of an insert match the last insert into that sheet, the rows are appended underneath the existing header. If the column set is different, a new header row is added above the new rows instead of mixing them into the old table.

Before inserting, you can open a preview that shows the extracted table alongside the original document and lets you page through the files in the batch. The sidebar processes files in To Table mode, so the result it writes is the extracted table; a batch with no table result has nothing to insert. For a document you want back as editable Word output rather than a table, use the web app's To Word mode and Export.

How credits work

The add-on has no separate quota of its own. Processing from the sidebar is charged against the same credits as the web app, at the same rate: one charge per processed file, set by your account's Model Tier. Because every page of a PDF, Word, or text file counts as its own file, a multi-page document uses several credits.

The Account section always shows your current balance, and Get more takes you to the plans page. Using the add-on does not earn or consume a different kind of credit — a balance spent here is the same balance you would spend on the website. The per-plan details are on Plans & Credits.

Common questions

Do I need a separate account or subscription for the add-on?

No. The add-on connects to the account you already have, and it has no separate quota. Any plan you hold applies here too.

Will I see the same files and templates as on the website?

Yes. The Files list, the templates in Data Columns, and the credit balance all come from your account, so a batch uploaded on the website can be processed here and the results inserted into your sheet.

Which sheet do the results go into?

The one that is active when you insert — the tab you have selected in the spreadsheet the sidebar is attached to. If you are inserting a new column set, a header row is added above the data.

What happens if I run out of credits?

Processing does not start. The sidebar shows how many credits you have and how many the batch needs, and lets you get more or process just the files your balance covers. See Plans & Credits.
