Precision+ is a switch beside Select Mode on the dashboard that asks the model to spend more time reasoning before it answers. It matters most for calculated columns, especially ones that combine many values. Turning it on makes a run slower; it does not change how many credits the run costs.
Where to find it
Precision+ sits in the Select Mode row on the dashboard, next to the To Table / To Word switch. When it is off it reads Precision+ Off; click it and the label reads Precision+ On. Hovering over it shows the tooltip “Best quality, slower speed.”
It is off by default, so a new account starts with it disabled unless you turn it on.
When to turn it on
Turn Precision+ on when a column has to work something out instead of copying a value that is printed — and especially when the calculation has to combine several numbers at once. That is the kind of work the extra reasoning is for:
- Summing a whole column of line amounts into a total.
- Adding up many days of hours, such as a multi-day or multi-week total.
- A formula that pulls together several different values in a single expression.
For straightforward extraction — a value that is printed on the document and only needs reading — there is usually nothing for the extra reasoning to help with.
Precision+ does not guarantee a correct result. As with any calculated column, the values it produces are still worth a look in review before you rely on them; see Review & Verification. How you write the calculation is the same whether or not Precision+ is on — see Custom Columns for how to ask for one.
What it costs
Turning Precision+ on makes processing slower, because the model is given more time to reason before it answers. That is the trade: a slower run in exchange for more careful handling of a difficult calculation.
It does not add credits. A run is charged per processed file at your account's Model Tier rate, and that is the same whether Precision+ is on or off. Turning Precision+ on will not deduct extra credits.
How the setting applies
Precision+ is an account-level setting, not a per-run choice. The app remembers your last choice and restores it the next time you sign in.
Processing uses the setting as it stood at the moment you started that run. Changing the switch afterward does not reach back into files that were already submitted — they finish with the setting they were submitted under. A later run uses whatever the switch says at that point, so to apply a changed setting to a batch you process it again.
The same account setting is shared by the other ways an account can process files. The Google Sheets and Airtable add-ons have a Precision+ switch of their own that writes this same setting, and files that arrive through a Collection Link or the Email Inbox and are processed automatically use it too. Setting Precision+ once therefore applies wherever the account processes documents.
For how the API treats this setting — including the single case where one request can override it — see the Account Settings page in the API docs. This page covers the dashboard and the account-level setting itself.
Precision+ and Model Tier
Precision+ and Model Tier are separate controls, and they add together rather than replace each other.
- A Model Tier is your account's processing level — Standard, Advanced, or Premium. It is assigned by the ImageToTable.ai team and decides which model processes your files and how many credits each processed file costs.
- Precision+ is the switch you control yourself. It does not change the model or the credit cost; it changes how much the same model reasons about the work before it answers.
Turning Precision+ on leaves your Model Tier where it is, and changing the Model Tier does not turn Precision+ on or off. See Model Tier for how tiers work and what each one costs.
Common questions
Does Precision+ cost extra credits?
No. A run is charged per processed file at your account's Model Tier rate, and that is the same whether Precision+ is on or off.
Will turning it on change files I have already processed?
No. Each file is processed with the setting that was in force when you started that run, so moving the switch later does not affect files that were already submitted. Processing the batch again uses the current setting.
Should I leave it on all the time?
That depends on whether the slower run is worth it to you. The extra reasoning has nothing to work with when a column is a straightforward read rather than a calculation, so leaving it on for that kind of work only makes processing slower. Turn it on when a column needs several values combined, and off when it does not.
Is it the same as my Model Tier?
No. Model Tier is the account's processing level, assigned by the ImageToTable.ai team, and it decides the model and the per-file credit cost. Precision+ is a switch you control that changes how much the same model reasons; it changes neither the tier nor the cost. See Precision+ and Model Tier above.
